BASICS

• fani is a brothel proprietor in the city of laila, one of the five main port cities in the pyrate republic, a remote cluster of islands in the sky above the continent
• called "the pyrate republic's only lady", she originally heralds from the continent where her mother worked at a brothel, too
• however, no one knows the real story and rumour has it, she is the daughter of the king's mistress and was sent off as a prisoner to the new world in the sky when she killed her mother in a fit of rage
• fani neither confirms nor denies this story, letting it shroud her business in mystique; though she's open enough about the killing her mother part, since that shrouds her in something else, something like fear or respect
• the truth is, when she was 19 fani's mother tried taking advantage of fani's beauty and charm, arranging a marriage with a much older man who was rich and influential (and one of her own regular customers)
• however, since fani was in love with the poor royal guard, allun, she refused the marriage; it came to blows and she ended up murdering her mother
• sent off on a prisoner ship to one of the continent's colonies, the ship was eventually attacked by the infamous pyrate, ingrom wild's airship, and all the prisoners offered the choice between death or freedom by working for wild instead
• for a few months, fani worked on wild's airship, though she didn't show any affinity for life in the air, so next time wild's ship landed down on the pyrate republic, she stayed behind on the islands and started a life there
• nevertheless, wild and she retained a friendly relation and when she started her own brothel, his crew is shown special privileges and can cut deals others can't whenever they are portside
• the first year in the pyrate republic, though, she worked for another woman at her brothel in the port city of suzette, selea brandt, and the two had and still have a love-hate relationship, competing against each other now that they're in the same business
• the pyrate republic and the rest of the new world are a myriad of relatively newly discovered archipelagoes in the sky, suspended islands hanging by a mysterious power high above the ground of the continent
• they were all uninhabited, but have since been taken over by settlers and, in the case of the republic, pyrates with stolen and acquired airships that raid commercial and military ships travelling between the islands and the continent
• fani's brothel, "sister house", earning her the nickname sister fani, is popular among the republic's harlots because she is known to give rights and privileges to her workers that other brothels, selea's among them, don't
• fani is a calculating, shrewd businesswoman and knows how to use her network, connections, relations, etc. to her advantage; she doesn't refrain from ruling by violence either, extremely talented with a knife
